I had the pleasure recently to pay a visit to the Olive Branch Community Café at Bennochy Parish Church in Elgin Street, Kirkcaldy.
The event is popular with residents in the local community and, over a cuppa and some delicious home-baking, I got the chance to have a chat with Rev. Robin McAlpine and Louise Turner, development worker.
It was great to hear about the many projects that the church is involved in – jigsaw swap clubs, Zumba Gold and Tai Chi classes, to name just a few – and a definite highlight of the visit was getting an opportunity to see the church’s fantastic new community mural (pictured), which was painted by local schoolchildren and unveiled recently.
The visit was arranged through the Meet Your MP project, organised by the Scottish Churches Parliamentary Office (SCPO), which aims to bring politicians and political representatives closer together.
