MKM Building Supplies is now officially Kirkcaldy and Cowdenbeath’s Constituency Responsible Business Champion.
Lesley Laird MP, who nominated the Kirkcaldy firm, was delighted to present the certificate to director Ian Watson and the team on Friday.
The scheme is run by the All-Party Parliamentary Corporate Responsibility Group (APCRG) to recognise businesses across the UK who show exceptional standards in customer service, staff wellbeing and community involvement.
The competition was tough but MKM were chosen to feature in a national top 20-strong list selected by co-chairs, Jonathan Djanogly MP and Baroness (Sally) Greengross.
Lesley said: “Without a doubt, MKM deserved this certificate. Ian and the team go above and beyond for the Kirkcaldy community, as their efforts in rescuing last year’s Poppy Appeal clearly illustrated.
“The team do this without asking for reward, but that makes presenting recognition like this all the more special.
”I wish MKM all the very best with their role as area distributor in the Poppy Appeal again this year – they have exciting new plans, which I’m sure will be a great success.”
Ian added: “We are delighted that Lesley nominated MKM Kirkcaldy for this award. To be shortlisted in the final 20 nationally was a fantastic achievement for our team, who thoroughly deserve the recognition for all their effort and hard work.”
As in previous years, a wide variety of companies from across the UK were nominated by MPs from small high street businesses to large companies.
Their activities range from aerospace, ammunitions, care and construction to farm shops, football clubs and opticians.
The one thing they have in common is their commitment to their communities, customers, employees and suppliers.
Baroness Greengross said: “We were delighted to receive so many nominations from MPs again this year, with several MPs nominating a company for the first time.
“It is always very encouraging to read about so many great companies doing wonderful work.”
