Hosted a meeting today with Sustainable Cupar in their quest to incorporate a district heating system into the proposed housing developments in Cupar. Thanks too, to the developers who attended and to Willie Rennie MSP for co-ordinating the meeting.
There is much merit in looking at how this type of approach can be taken forward, and I welcomed Willie Rennie MSP support to dialogue further with the Scottish Government in relation to improving policy and financial support for the work needed to look at the feasibility of this type of project.
There is already success in public sector areas of this type of project, but if there is to be take up across the commercial and construction sector there will need to be further work done to balance the risks.
If we are serious about developing alternative energy systems it requires a clear policy direction and financial commitment at a government level in order to test out the viability and sustainability of this type of project, particularly when related to commercial development.
